In Abruzzo, as in all other Italian regions, selective hunting has begun, with the censuses of the ungulate species that will be hunted in the next hunting season.
The Abruzzo Hunting Areas are promoting deer, roe deer, and wild boar censuses from fixed points, as was done last year and is now standard practice in many other Italian regions. The activities must be conducted simultaneously, taking into account the four census sessions: two dawns and two dusks. The appointments are scheduled for March 29th (dusk), Saturday the 30th (dawn and dusk), and Sunday the 31st (dawn), or at the same points identified last year, with some minor adjustments to ensure at least one licensed hunter covers each point.
The purpose of the censuses, we remind you, is to collect significant information on the number, density, and structure of deer. Specifically, in Abruzzo, data on wild boar will also be collected during the deer census. If the data is insufficient to prepare the annual management plan, a new session will be held in May. All select inspectors of these ungulates, regardless of their red deer and roe deer census qualifications, are encouraged to participate in the censuses by contacting the respective surveyors.
Furthermore, as regards the census points shared with the “Gole del Sagittario” Regional Nature Reserve, it will be necessary to repeat the census on 5, 6 and 7 April, always with the two sunrises and two sunsets as explained above.
