At the initiative of the Provincial Councillor for Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Luis Walcher, the Provincial Council of Bolzano approved, at its meeting on Friday, November 7, 2025, two significant amendments to the Implementing Regulations regarding the rules for the protection of wild fauna and the practice of hunting activities.
These revisions were introduced with the primary objective of optimizing wildlife and hunting management in the province and responding to previous critical issues.
The most significant change concerns daily and weekly hunting permits , the issuing of which is now abolished for hunters who are not resident in South Tyrol.
Councillor Walcher highlighted how this measure addresses a point that had previously been the subject of strong criticism, specifically regarding the authorisation granted to hunters from outside the province to hunt birds in the local area.
The application of the new provisions is extended to the killing of a greater number of wild bird species, including, in the future, all so-called "feathered game" , overcoming the previous limitation to only fowl.
A change has been introduced to ensure faster and more accurate recording of game taken in the provincial digital database.
This registration must be completed within ten days of the hunt. The law extends the traceability requirement to hunting trips conducted in private reserves.
This measurement constitutes a fundamental control tool for hunting operations and represents the statistical basis necessary for the correct preparation of the subsequent annual culling plan.
