A coalition of animal rights and environmental groups is currently attacking the Turin city council over the proposed wild boar control plan for the metropolitan city.
The metropolitan city of Turin has issued its wild boar control plan and immediately many associations—ENPA, LAC, LAV, Legambiente, Circolo L'Aquilone, OIPA, Pro Natura, and SOS Gaia—have lashed out against Mayor Appendino, claiming she is not respecting the program she originally proposed.
In the pre-electoral document the associations recall that it was written that the Council was committed to promoting the culture of animal respect and of recognizing all animal species in this.
They also point out some illegal elements in the approved control plan, first and foremost the inclusion of hunters in the control plans . They then list others, such as the lack of an opinion from ISPRA and census data, no environmental intervention is planned, and the idea of slaughtered animals being given to hunters free of charge is unacceptable.
The aforementioned associations have announced that they will file a complaint with the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) if the plan is not modified and if contraceptive practices with decoys are used.
Animal rights and environmental associations also demand that the Alpine Districts' Territorial Hunting Areas and hunters be immediately excluded from control activities.
