March 2020 saw a surge in US arms sales that shattered all previous data.
The coronavirus scare and the uncertainty it has sparked, as often happens in the United States, is leading to rampant gun purchases. It's likely a defense mechanism, triggered in Americans' minds whenever a serious threat looms.
The fact is that, based on data alone, there has been an 80% increase in firearm sales compared to March 2019. According to the FBI, the federal agency responsible for monitoring gun purchases, 2,4 million requests for firearms and ammunition have exceeded 3,7 million.
It should be noted that the requests analyzed by the FBI are nominal and not related to the purchase of a single weapon, so it is possible that for each purchase request there is a corresponding number of weapons, which would increase the number of weapons purchased.
