Sergio Berlato recently wondered why no one in Italy is talking about hunting exemptions anymore.
However, in reality, no one seems interested in allowing Italian hunters to take advantage of the opportunities offered by current legislation, despite the application of the exemption regime and the activation of the capture facilities explicitly provided for by Directive 147/2009/EC and State Law No. 157/92.
This seems anomalous given that at certain times the political forces considered it essential to guarantee this right to Italian hunters, just as it seemed that almost all the leaders of almost all the Italian hunting associations were ready to sacrifice themselves in defense of the rights of their members.
Berlato wonders whether the reason is pure resignation or the distance from upcoming elections.
Why—asks Berlato—do the various political representatives, with a few laudable exceptions, not raise their voices to demand that institutions respect and properly implement EU directives and state regulations? Why don't most hunting leaders, representing their prestigious associations, join forces to ask the government to convene a State/Regions Conference to fully implement Articles 4 and 19bis of State Law No. 157/92, which would allow the activation of capture facilities and the application of the derogation regime in Italy as provided for by Article 9 of Directive 147/2009/EC?
