Massimo Buconi, Vice President of the Italian Hunting Federation, addresses ENPA's statements regarding roe deer hunting in the Umbria Region.
I read the statement released by ENPA regarding roe deer hunting in Umbria. Prejudice is more blinding than hatred! Evidently, ENPA, believing itself to be the custodian of its own truths regarding the conservation of wildlife and biodiversity, is democratically communicating to society that anyone who doesn't adhere to its professed dogma is committing an attack on common decency, ethics, and the environment. It also believes that institutions, in this case the Umbria Region, are granting permits to hunters, implying base interests.
Massimo Buconi, national vice president of Federcaccia, responded to a note from the animal rights association regarding roe deer hunting in the region:
"I would humbly like to point out," Buconi continues, "that our complex society, in all its facets, requires management actions that allow us to govern processes and not passively await the consequences of unfolding events. Knowing and managing in order to govern.
Hunting, while certainly practiced by enthusiasts, falls within the framework of rules and objectives of sustainability, biodiversity, and species conservation, and therefore also in the general interest. In particular, the hunting of roe deer is subject to strict rules, requiring preliminary censuses, population analyses, including those related to their habitat, and conservative harvest plans aimed at improving the structure and condition of the wild animal population in a given area. The goal is also to make wild population density compatible with human activities (primarily agriculture and traffic).
To achieve these goals, science, not blind hunting fury or the Region's acquiescence, says it is necessary to manage and control males, females, and cubs. Therefore, no stirring up a fuss by trying to leverage emotional influence, but rather informing people about the reasons behind their actions.
Oops! Lastly, I almost forgot, dear friends of ENPA: in Umbria, during this period, hunting does and fawns is not permitted! Not just from today, but always; the hunting of these classes in Umbria is permitted from January to March, when the fawns are no longer… fawns!
