Following a question from MP Guglielmo Golinelli and a response from Minister Centinaio regarding the implementation of regional powers regarding hunting, aimed at controlling the numbers of certain species, the National President of ARCI Caccia, Sergio Sorrentino, spoke.
The President of the Hunting Association stated: "We applaud the initiative of the Hon. Golinelli and the attention given by Minister Gian Marco Centinaio to the issue of controlling certain wild species. We appreciate the Minister's response to the fact that important work is underway with the Regions and the Ministry of the Environment; the establishment of a Working Group that will submit a Report by March 31st is an important goal.
We would like to once again critically emphasize the underestimation of the importance of reactivating a forum for dialogue with stakeholders. This forum is the National Technical Wildlife Hunting Committee, established by law. Restoring its operational capacity would allow hunters to be brought into play—a useful resource for the process—with their contributions of proposals, ideas, experience, and knowledge, which—alongside and in the interests of farmers—will be able to serve the institutions.
Our primary concern is to help resolve the critical issues raised in Parliament by the questioner, Hon. Golinelli, to which Minister Centinaio responded with knowledge and understanding in the Chamber. The responsibility for the unfortunate, immature animal rights movement in Italy lies in the desire to impede the management of wild fauna at all costs.
If the fundamentalism of the "NO" is heard, as in the past, the situation will worsen, causing even more damage to the agricultural economy, livestock farming, health, and animal welfare, and the country will increasingly face the risk of innocent human lives being sacrificed on the roads."
