For generations, they've been successfully loading hunting cartridges, a business they run alongside their gun shop. But increasingly, Danes have specialized in ammunition. And hunters appreciate it.
The history of the Danesi family's connection to hunting, and specifically to hunting ammunition, runs parallel to the history of the latter. As breech-loading became popular and the need for readily available cartridges gradually became commonplace, especially given the abundance of game in the early 1900s, hunters of the last century found themselves having to load their own ammunition, using poor quality materials and in short supply. Above all, they lacked the slightest understanding of how to create something efficient and safe. Thus, those who excelled in this field in the small towns of our beautiful Italy unequivocally became the benchmark for all others. In this context, Nazareno Danesi had the intuition to combine passion and skill, creating a profession from scratch and selling hunting ammunition in his homeland. It was 1920, a century ago. It was the era of Acapnia, Superballistite, and little else, but with them, Nazareno gradually created a small market in the Casentino area.
Then came the war, and only in 1948 was his son Raffaello able to continue what was becoming a consolidated mix of passion and craft, with one important twist. The Danesis date their company back to this period, but Nazareno had begun experimenting with cartridge cases and gunpowder shortly after the end of the First World War. Much earlier. Raffaello envisioned not only continuing to sell hunting cartridges purchased from other manufacturers, but also producing his own, in small quantities initially for friends, whose great appreciation helped broaden the circle of those who requested them. Demand for Raffaello's loaded cartridges rapidly increased throughout much of Tuscany, and from his small home workshop, Raffaello Danesi was called upon to consolidate the company's status, purchasing and installing machinery that would allow him to increase production volumes. The craftsmanship, so appreciated by hunters until then, remained intact, but production increased, as did the affirmation and success of the brand.

Between working with MB and DN loads, it wasn't difficult for Raffaello to attract the passion of his two sons, Luigi and Franco, who were able to further expand the market and, at the same time, production capacity. Along with this expansion, they also continually expanded their product range, creating different ammunition lines for small migratory birds, noble sedentary birds, and large migratory birds. The market covered the whole of Tuscany, and the great diversity of hunting practices in the region allowed Luigi and Franco to experiment with a wide range of loads during those years, achieving customer satisfaction with their product range. Luigi and Franco, still in business today, have also been able to pass on their passion and expertise to the next generation, contributing to the company's further growth.
Today, Alfiero and Francesca have given Danesi Munizioni further impetus. The production facility now features several high-capacity production lines, and the increased production has been matched by a growing market, thanks to an efficient sales network that has enabled the Danesi brand to expand its presence in gun shops throughout Italy. Collaborative relationships with major companies in the industry and presence at major national trade shows have done the rest, allowing hunters to experience the impressive range of cartridges produced and, for them, sparking further demand.
Indeed, the breadth of the range is the flagship of modern Danesi Munizioni. A catalog that encompasses all smoothbore calibers, even the most obsolete ones, such as the 16 gauge, which Danesi Munizioni, in partnership with Club Calibro 16, has undoubtedly played a leading role in relaunching with a modern twist.
A range of smoothbore shotgun ammunition for all hunting needs and types. From skylark to wild boar, Danesi Munizioni produces cartridges for all hunting needs.
Seventy-five different types of ammunition in a catalog entirely produced in Strada in Casentino, with the logic of further growth, is a record that only a few large international companies can boast. However, the difference at Danesi Munizioni is that here the production continues to be artisanal, directly tested on the hunt by the owners, who are the same people who test the settings and operate the loading machines every day.
The future is bright, with the addition of new family members to the team, and Danesi will continue to provide significant rewards to hunters across the peninsula and beyond.
