Following the preparation of the Wild Boar Damage Reduction Plan in municipalities in the province of Oristano, the Sardinia Regional Committee has given a favorable opinion until 2022.
In Sardinia, Gianni Lampis, Regional Councillor for Environmental Protection, stated that wild boars are responsible for at least 40% of damage to agricultural production. In the Montiferru area, this percentage reaches 90%, which prompted us to develop the control plan.
The Region, in compliance with the assessments of ISPRA and the competent office for Environmental Impact Assessment, has decided to adopt urgent measures, providing for the culling of wild boars.
The Province of Oristano has been tasked with providing an annual report on its activities to ISPRA and the Regional Department for Environmental Protection.
Wild boar control activities will be monitored by the Forestry Corps for Environmental Surveillance.
