In this challenging hunting year for French hunting, the number of aspiring hunters passing the hunting exam increased by 10%.
In 2021, French hunting was the target of numerous political and regulatory attacks, but perhaps it is no coincidence that there was a marked increase in interest in the art of hunting among many people.
Before the COVID crisis, in 2019, there were just over 16.000 applicants in the first half of the year, while in the same period in 2021, over 1.500 more people applied for hunting licenses.
Demand is particularly high in the Dordogne and Pas-de-Calais departments and the Paris region. In these areas, the massive number of applications has created waiting lists and complicated procedures.
Hunting license exams are organized by the OFB (French Office for Biodiversity) in collaboration with the hunting federations.
This increase in requests for hunting licenses is a major response to the actions undertaken by anti-hunting activism and it seems that the French are increasingly wanting to discover this passion.
