The Hunting World's Control Room comments on data from the University of Urbino regarding hunting accidents.
The recognized hunting associations Federcaccia, Enalcaccia, Arcicaccia, ANLC, ANUUMigratoristi, Italcaccia, and the CNCN – National Hunting and Nature Committee, gathered together in the Hunting World Control Room, comment positively on the data released by the University of Urbino: the latest report on the survey of hunting victims confirms the decreasing trend in hunting accidents in recent years.
The analysis shows that, in the period from September 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, there were a total of 55 accidents, a 4,34% decrease compared to the previous season, when 62 accidents were recorded. Another significant figure concerns the number of fatalities, which totaled five in the recently concluded season, more than halved from the 13 recorded in the previous one. The decline is also confirmed on an annual basis: 2023 ended with eight fatalities, compared to 11 in 2022; looking at the long-term trend, the decline appears even more significant because it is consistent every year.
Regarding methodology, the research conducted by the University of Urbino considers only hunting accidents that occurred in connection with legal and proper hunting practices, thus excluding all unfair hunting practices, such as poaching and acts of intentional violence, which the Control Room denounces as illegal activities, and other unpredictable causes such as illnesses, falls, and accidents occurring in nature.
The positive trend seen in recent years is the result of timely awareness-raising efforts on the topic of safety, a central theme in the discussion on responsible hunting, carried out by the Control Room and the hunting community with commitment and dedication.
This year's results, encouraging for the seventh consecutive year, are not, however, a point of arrival, but rather part of a journey still in progress, the goal of which is to achieve zero hunting accidents in the coming years.
