The confirmation Calabrian hunters have been waiting for has finally arrived: the hunting season for thrushes will continue until January 30th, subject to the approval and subsequent publication in the Official Journal of the amendment to the Finance Law regarding hunting calendars.
The Calabria Region's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced on Friday, January 10, that, as a result of the amendments to Article 18, paragraph 4, of Law 157/92, pending a ruling on the legality of the Hunting Calendar, "Hunting is permitted within the terms set out in paragraphs 1 and 1-bis, and the harvest limits and daily hours established by each region in the latest legitimately applied Hunting Calendar will be reinstated."
The new law became applicable because the dispute remained open thanks to appeals to the Council of State, first filed by Federcaccia and then by the Region, which prevented the TAR ruling (which was due to close on January 9) from becoming final.
Based on the above, until a final ruling (the hearing on the merits is scheduled for April 29th), the various species can be hunted according to last year's Hunting Calendar; specifically, in Calabria, the closing date for hunting thrushes is January 30th.
Federcaccia expresses its enormous satisfaction and thanks its Research Office, the Department of Agriculture and Hunting, its lawyers, and the regional legal team for pursuing the right path and taking the right action to protect hunters' rights.
The commitment and efforts made by our Association continue to bear fruit, and this result bodes well for the future.
