Partridge hunting had been suspended since the 2020-2021 hunting season, and now new opportunities are emerging.
At the urging of the Aosta Valley League and with the support of the Councillor for Natural Resources, the Aosta Valley Regional Council will include the possibility of hunting mountain hare and rock ptarmigan in the 2022-2023 hunting calendar.
The suspension dated 2020 and, according to some, was not supported by any scientific studies. They instead believed that the hunters' actions were beneficial to the conservation of the species, both because of the highly controlled harvest and the censuses they conducted.
The authorized harvests in the last hunting season were 8 rock ptarmigan and 15 mountain hare. The hunting impact was therefore considered decidedly low, for two species that, moreover, are not considered endangered.
Councilor Sapinet announced his vote in favor of reopening the hunting season for rock ptarmigan and mountain hare, sending a positive signal to the regional hunting community, which is an integral part of the region's tradition and contributes so much to the Aosta Valley.
