For three years they were no longer able to do so, but the new regional law requires hunters to assist the provincial police in control operations.
The new regional law in Lombardy requires hunters to assist provincial police forces in wildlife control operations. Specifically, the law—as Federcaccia Lombardia points out—requires provincial police forces to employ, not specifically trained and certified hunters to comply with invasive species culling plans.
The law requires specific agreements to be drawn up for collaboration to improve the management of ATCs, effectively sharing personnel and services for all activities related to wild boar containment.
Lorenzo Bertacchi, Regional President of Federcaccia Lombardia, believes that although the Constitutional Court had clarified the full legitimacy of the use of specially trained volunteer personnel by provincial police forces, this involvement did not exist in some provinces. And with limited staffing, this effectively limited the efficiency of operations, especially in those areas where hunting is not possible.
