It's a source of great satisfaction for those who have believed in it from the beginning. The Lepre Italica project is growing in importance by engaging new licensed hunters.
In recent days, the Sicily Region has authorized new hunters to monitor and conduct experimental hunting of the Italian hare in Sicily. These newly authorized hunters will enable the well-known project " TOWARDS THE SUSTAINABLE HARVEST OF THE ITALIAN HARE " to be extended to new territories within different ATCs.
The project, we would like to point out, is promoted by the Fidc Study Centre with its Resident Fauna Office, in collaboration with the Applied Zoology Laboratory of the University of Palermo and the Fauna-Hunting Departments of the territory.
The project was already active last season in some districts of the ATC ME1, PA2 and AG1 and will now be extended due to the presence of new hunter qualifications.
The Project is of fundamental importance in the context of the culling of small sedentary fauna in Sicily and in the more general perspective of supporting traditional hunting.
The Sicily Region has been very responsive to the initiative from the very beginning and has become an integral part of it, taking responsibility for increasing the number of licensed hunters. It is hoped that this experimental model will be implemented in the future for the rock partridge, which has not been hunted for years.
It's also important to underline that although this project is promoted by Federcaccia Sicilia, its benefits will be shared equally by all hunters.
