Il FAUSTI Italyco SLX It's a high-end over-and-under hunting shotgun in which the Val Trompia gunmaking tradition is interpreted through modern production technologies, meticulous workmanship, and a high level of customization. It's a gun designed for hunters who don't consider a shotgun simply a tool for killing game, but also seek quality construction, balanced design, select materials, and meticulous finishing.

The name Italy co deliberately recalls the Italian origins of the project. The weapon is built in Marcheno, in the Brescia arms district, and represents one of the most refined expressions of production. FAUSTI.

The acronym SLX identifies the version characterized by the large side plates, which profoundly modify the appearance of the action and allow for the development of much more complex engravings than those achievable on a normal boxlock action.

A fine rifle built with a modern concept

The Italyco SLX interprets the concept of an Italian fine gun without sacrificing the advantages of modern manufacturing technologies. Numerically controlled machine tools allow for extremely precise tolerances in the production of components, while assembly, adjustment, and finishing determine the final quality of the weapon.

It's a different philosophy from purely industrial production. Technology is used to create a dimensionally precise base, which is then subjected to the necessary work to achieve the right fit, finishes, and aesthetic quality consistent with the product category.

The action is proportionate to the caliber

One of the most important elements of the Italyco SLX is the use of action frames sized for the .410 caliber . This is a crucial choice, especially when working down to .20, .28, and .410.

Using a properly proportioned action allows you to avoid unnecessary bulk and, above all, preserve the gun's aesthetic harmony. The result is evident when looking at smaller calibers: the receiver, barrel assembly, and stock maintain consistent proportions, rather than giving the impression of using action designed for a larger caliber.

This approach also influences the gun's behavior. Reducing the mass in the central area helps modify the speed with which the over-and-under responds to the hunter's movements.

Steel and solid machining

The Italyco SLX's action is crafted from high-strength steel and precision-machined. For a shotgun in this category, the use of steel combines structural strength with the ability to create particularly refined surface finishes.

The choice also takes on an important aesthetic significance: a steel frame offers the engraver an ideal surface on which to develop complex decorations, chiaroscuro effects and different cutting depths.

Boxlock mechanics and long folders

The Italyco SLX may look like a side-lock shotgun, but it's important to distinguish between aesthetics and mechanical architecture. The over-and-under uses a boxlock action combined with long side plates.

This solution allows for a rational and robust structure while simultaneously increasing the surface area available for engraving. The sideplates also serve an important stylistic function because they accompany the line of the receiver towards the stock, smoothing the transition between steel and walnut.

FAUSTI Four Locks: four locking points

The closure uses the patented system FAUSTI Four LocksThe solution features four connection points between the barrel group and the action, with the aim of obtaining a stable coupling and effectively distributing the stresses generated by firing.

On a high-end gun, the quality of the locking mechanism isn't just about resistance to pressure. It must help maintain the correct relationship between barrels and action over time, preventing the premature formation of mechanical play.

It is a solution that allows FAUSTI to maintain its own technical identity even on models in which engravings and woodwork inevitably attract attention first.

Long folders define the aesthetics of the Italyco SLX

Visually, the long sideplates are probably the most distinctive feature of the Italyco SLX. The metal surface extends laterally towards the stock and offers plenty of space for developing hunting scenes and ornamental motifs.

This allows you to build a composition in which the left side, right side and chest of the bascula can become parts of a single decorative project.

On a rifle of this level, engraving shouldn't be interpreted as a final finishing touch. It becomes part of the piece's identity and can be chosen according to the owner's preferences.

Customization allows you to transform two technically similar Italyco SLXs into aesthetically very different guns. Hunters can favor a classic setup, choose subjects related to the most commonly hunted game, or opt for more understated decorations.

It is precisely this possibility of intervening on the identity of the specimen that separates a high-end weapon from a product made exclusively according to standard configurations.

Frame finishes

The final result of the engraving also depends on the treatment chosen for the metal surface. A light finish highlights the engraver's mark more clearly and creates a sharp contrast with the shaded areas; more traditional treatments can instead give the over-and-under a more classic feel.

The choice must be considered together with the type of engraving and the color of the walnut, because on the Italyco SLX metal and wood are perceived as parts of a single aesthetic project.

Walnut selected for a high-end weapon

The stock uses select, high-quality walnut . In this category, it's not just the presence of an attractive grain that counts: the wood must possess adequate mechanical characteristics, especially in the areas subjected to the greatest stress.

The grain direction in the grip area is therefore at least as important as the blade's aesthetics. A good stock must combine beauty, stability, and durability.

The oil finish preserves the natural appearance of walnut and allows you to appreciate its depth and chromatic variations without creating the plasticized effect typical of some very glossy finishes.

Wood-metal connection as an indicator of construction quality

On a quality over-and-under, one of the details to carefully observe is the connection between the wood and the metal . The surfaces of the stock must precisely follow the profile of the side plates and the receiver, avoiding obvious steps or discontinuities.

It's a seemingly minor detail that actually reveals the amount of attention dedicated to the final assembly. The more complex the metal forms become, the more difficult it is to achieve a precise fit with the walnut.

Grip and stock configuration

The Italyco SLX can be configured with different stock geometries, allowing the shotgun to be adapted both to the owner's morphology and to the type of hunting practiced.

A more pronounced pistol offers a more defined position for the strong hand; a more open geometry, on the other hand, allows greater freedom for the wrist and can be particularly natural when shouldering.

For a gun in this category, it's also particularly important to correctly evaluate the stock's length, drop, and cast. An aesthetically magnificent stock loses much of its practical value if it doesn't naturally guide the shooter's eye into the correct position relative to the rib.

FAUSTI Italyco SLX: Five calibers for very different hunting purposes

The smoothbore version of the FAUSTI Italyco SLX can be configured in calibers 12, 16, 20, 28 and .410A particularly wide range that allows you to build your shotgun based not only on personal preferences, but above all on the type of game and the environment in which it will be used.

Switching from one caliber to another changes the amount of available pellets, the gun's weight, its dynamic behavior, and the feel of the gun when carrying. For this reason, choosing the caliber represents the first real step in defining the Italyco SLX.

12 Gauge: The Most Versatile Configuration

The 12-gauge remains the most versatile choice for those who want to use the Italyco SLX in a variety of hunting situations. The wide range of ammunition available allows you to move from relatively light loads to heavier solutions, choosing the shot weight and numbering based on the game.

It's particularly suitable for hunters who don't want to dedicate their shotgun to just one specialty. Pheasant, wood pigeon, waterfowl, and numerous other types of hunting can be tackled by simply modifying the cartridge and choke.

Compared to smaller calibers, it offers greater availability of pellets in the pattern, a feature that increases flexibility when distances are not perfectly predictable.

16 Gauge: the allure of a great hunting tradition

The presence of the 16 gauge is particularly significant on a shotgun like the Italyco SLX. It's a gauge historically highly prized in European and Italian hunting, later penalized by the spread of 12 and 20 gauges, but it still offers an interesting balance.

The 16 gauge can be considered an intermediate solution, not only numerically. It offers a greater availability of pellets than smaller gauges and simultaneously allows for the construction of a less massive shotgun than many 12 gauge configurations.

It is probably the most particular choice of the family: less commercially widespread than the 12 and 20, but perfectly consistent with the classic character of the Italyco SLX.

20 gauge: balance between effectiveness and ease of carry

The 20 gauge represents one of the most attractive configurations for those who primarily practice stalking. It allows for a smaller overall size while maintaining ballistic performance suitable for a variety of hunting situations.

It's particularly suitable for those who cover many miles behind a dog and place great importance on ease of carry. At the same time, the modern availability of 20-gauge cartridges allows for a wide variety of loads without necessarily turning it into a specialized caliber.

On pheasant, partridge, woodcock and other game typically faced with a pointing dog, it can represent an extremely balanced solution, provided that the cartridge and choke are chosen correctly.

28 gauge: the small caliber for the conscious hunter

With the 28 gauge, the interpretation of the Italyco SLX changes significantly. The aim is no longer just versatility, but a particularly refined relationship between hunter and gun.

The smaller barrel diameter allows for a very streamlined overall design and provides a feeling of great agility. However, the smaller pellet load compared to larger calibers requires greater attention when judging distance.

The 28 gauge therefore performs best when used without attempting to transform it into a 12 gauge through excessive loading. A balanced cartridge, a verified pattern, and the correct timing of the shot allow you to fully exploit its qualities.

.410: the most specialized configuration

The .410 takes this philosophy even further. It's the choice for those who want to use a true small caliber and consciously accept a smaller margin of error.

The quantity of pellets available requires greater discipline in shot selection. Distance, lead, and centering become even more important, and understanding the behavior of the cartridge used becomes crucial.

For this very reason, the .410 shouldn't be considered simply a lighter version of the Italyco SLX. It's a specialized configuration that requires experience and a thorough understanding of its operating limitations.

70 or 76 mm chamber depending on the configuration

The Italyco SLX is available with 70 or 76 mm chambers depending on the caliber and configuration chosen. The Magnum chambering increases the variety of compatible ammunition, but does not mean that heavier loads are automatically preferable.

In a shotgun intended for stalking, the cartridge should be chosen for the best balance between pattern density, velocity, and controllability. Indiscriminately increasing the load can increase recoil and fatigue without necessarily resulting in better pellet distribution.

Rods from 60 to 81 centimeters: an unusually wide range

One of the most interesting aspects of the Italyco is the wide range of barrel lengths available . Documented configurations range from approximately 60 to 81 centimeters , with several intermediate lengths.

This option allows for a profound change in the intended use of the rifle. However, length shouldn't be interpreted as a simple ballistic parameter: the most obvious difference is perceived primarily in the way the weapon moves.

Short barrels for woodland and instinctive shooting

Shorter configurations can be particularly attractive when hunting in the woods . A shorter overall length makes it easier to change direction and reduces bulk when the hunter has to move between trees, bushes, and vegetation.

This is an especially welcome feature when the game appears suddenly and the time available to complete the shot is very short.

The choice must be balanced, however: a rifle that is too light at the front can become very reactive and requires good technique to avoid sudden accelerations.

71 centimeters: the most transversal measurement

71 cm barrels are one of the most classic configurations for an over-and-under hunting shotgun. They offer a good compromise between speed and smoothness of movement and can adapt to a variety of environments.

For those who want to use the Italyco SLX without dedicating it exclusively to the woods or hunting in open spaces, this size represents a particularly rational choice.

76 centimeters for a more progressive movement

With 76 cm barrels, forward momentum increases, and the movement tends to become more progressive. This feature can be advantageous on game requiring longer follow-through and in situations where the shot is taken at longer range.

The increased length helps prevent abrupt swing interruptions. For those who hunt primarily in open environments, it can therefore be a very interesting configuration.

81 centimeters: a very specific choice

The 81 cm barrels represent the upper end of the range and are designed for specific needs. They increase stability but inevitably make the gun less responsive in tight spaces.

They are therefore more consistent with forms of hunting in which the continuity of the accompaniment takes on greater importance than the speed of rotation.

Fixed chokes for a dedicated configuration

The Italyco SLX can be built with fixed chokes . This is a particularly suitable solution when the owner already knows what the shotgun's primary purpose will be.

The possibility of defining the combination allows, for example, to have a relatively open first barrel and a more closed second one, obtaining two groups intended for different distances.

On a gun specifically configured for a specific hunt, the simplicity of fixed chokes therefore retains its own logic.

Interchangeable chokes for increased versatility

Those who want to use the same Italyco SLX in very different situations can instead choose the interchangeable chokesThe advantage is the possibility of modifying the distribution of the shot without intervening on the barrels, Fausti It provides as many as 5.

The choice is particularly sensible for those who alternate between woods and open environments or use the rifle on different game during the season.

In both cases, it's crucial to verify the behavior of the actual cartridges used on the plate. The marking on the choke tube describes a geometric characteristic, but what matters to the hunter is the actual distribution of the pellets on the target.

Full or ventilated rib

Italyco configurations can feature a solid or ventilated top rib with a machined surface to reduce glare. The documented widths are around 7 mm for the 12 gauge and approximately 6 mm for the smaller gauges.

A thinner rib on the smaller calibers helps maintain consistent proportions and offers a less invasive visual reference. The traditional spherical front sight completes a setup designed to favor shooting where attention must remain focused on the game.

Selective single trigger or double trigger

The standard configuration can include a selective single trigger , while a double trigger is available as an alternative. These are two solutions that meet different preferences.

With the single trigger the hunter keeps his finger in the same position for both shots and can choose in advance which barrel to use first.

The double trigger, on the other hand, allows you to instantly select the barrel simply by choosing one of the two triggers. On a shotgun with very different fixed chokes, this can be a particularly interesting solution because it allows you to react to the game's distance without having to operate a selector.

Automatic or manual extractors

You can also choose between automatic and manual ejection . Automatic ejectors eject spent cases when the rifle is opened, making reloading faster.

Manual extraction, on the other hand, allows you to remove spent cases directly from the chambers and is popular with those who prefer a more traditional approach. For a hunting rifle in this category, the choice depends primarily on the owner's habits.

Approximately 2,6 to 3,2 kg: weight varies with configuration

It is incorrect to attribute a single weight to the Italyco SLX. Depending on the caliber, barrel length, and configuration , the documented configurations are approximately between 2,6 and 3,2 kg.

The difference of more than half a kilogram significantly changes the weapon's behavior. Lighter versions favor carry and speed; those with greater mass offer more inertia and a feeling of greater stability during follow-up.

Woodcock: small caliber and small barrels

For an Italyco SLX intended primarily for woodcock hunting, it would make sense to favor a compact configuration. A 20 or 28 gauge, relatively short barrels, and an open first choke can create a particularly fast shotgun in the woods.

The .410 represents an even more specialized alternative, especially suitable for those who already have experience with this caliber and consciously accept the smallest number of pellets available.

Pheasant and partridge: the ideal territory for the 20-gauge shotgun

For hunting with pointing dogs in more open environments, the 20-gauge with 71 or 76 cm barrels is a particularly interesting combination. The shotgun retains good ease of carrying but acquires the progressive power needed to track game that can offer more extended shots.

The 16 gauge is an attractive alternative for those who want something less common, while the 12 gauge remains the most flexible solution when shooting conditions and distances are highly variable.

Waterfowl and hunting where greater versatility is needed

When the application requires larger loads or takes place in conditions where the distance is less predictable, the 12 gauge offers the widest range of possibilities.

In this case, a longer barrel length can help make the movement more stable, while interchangeable chokes allow the configuration to be modified depending on the conditions and the chosen ammunition.

Italyco SLX and the concept of Italian fine gun

The term "fine gun" is often associated with the great British traditions, but the Italian gunmaking industry has developed its own interpretation of the fine rifle over time. The Italian approach generally combines technologically advanced manufacturing with a strong focus on craftsmanship in the stages that determine the weapon's final appearance and quality.

The Italyco SLX fits precisely into this philosophy. It doesn't attempt to completely imitate a historical foreign model, but rather offers its own identity, recognizable in the balance between modern mechanics and the aesthetic culture of the Brescia school of gunmaking.

Note: The Italyco SLX is a highly configurable model. Dimensions, weight, chambering, barrels, chokes, trigger, ejection, wood, and finish may therefore vary depending on the model and the specific requirements. Before purchasing, it is advisable to check the configuration actually available or orderable.

Conclusions on the FAUSTI Italyco SLX

Il FAUSTI Italyco SLX represents one of the interpretations more refined than the over-and-under hunting shotgun from the Marcheno houseHowever, its fundamental characteristic cannot be identified in a single element of the technical data sheet.

The true meaning of the model emerges from the possibility of obtaining a weapon consistent with the owner: in size, hunting purpose and appearance.

This is what separates a merely expensive rifle from a truly desirable one. In the former case, value depends primarily on the materials and workmanship; in the latter, the relationship between the gun and the hunter also comes into play.

The Italyco SLX aims precisely at this last result: to be used today as a real hunting rifle and retain enough character and quality to be able to become, tomorrow, a gun to be passed down.
