The technology PIXFRA for thermal imaging

Before analyzing the individual product families it is useful to understand some of the parameters that determine the performance of a thermal viewer PIXFRA.

Thermal sensor resolution

Resolution refers to the number of sensitive elements, called microbolometers, used to create the image. A 640x512 pixel sensor has much more information than a 256x192 pixel sensor, allowing for better detail recognition, especially when digital zoom is used.

At the top of the range PIXFRA devices with thermal sensors are also placed 1280 × 1024 pixels, developed to offer particularly high image quality and maintain good readability even during observations over long distances.

Pixel pitch

Il pixel pitches, expressed in microns, indicates the size of the individual pixels of the sensor. Most of the range PIXFRA It uses sensors with a pixel pitch of 12 μm, a solution that allows for the creation of compact devices while maintaining good detection capabilities and a favorable combination of magnification, field of view and size of the lens.

Thermal sensitivity and NETD value

Another key value is NETD , which stands for Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference. This parameter measures the smallest temperature difference the sensor can detect.

The lower the NETD value, the greater the device's ability to separate subjects and details with very similar temperatures. This feature becomes especially important in the presence of humidity, fog, light rain, dense vegetation, or low thermal contrast between the animal and its surroundings.

Algorithms PIXFRA PIPS

Image processing on the most advanced devices is entrusted to the proprietary PIPS 2.0 and PIPS 3.0 systems . These algorithms intervene on noise reduction, contrast, edge definition and detail enhancement.

The goal is to maintain a stable, readable and natural image even in adverse weather conditions or when digital zoom is used.

Thermal monoculars PIXFRA for research and observation

I thermal monoculars PIXFRA They constitute one of the most complex sections of the catalog. They are independent, handheld instruments, used primarily for researching, observing, and identifying heat sources.

Compared to a device installed on the weapon, the monocular allows you to explore the environment more easily and safely, avoiding the use of a targeting system during the simple observation phase.

The range includes: Sirius HD, Sirius, Arc, Arc LRF, Mile, Mile 2 and Ranger.

PIXFRA Sirius HD: the ultra-high resolution thermal monocular

The family PIXFRA Sirius HD It represents the technological pinnacle of the brand's thermal monocular range. It was developed for those who demand maximum detail and need to observe large open spaces or subjects located at considerable distances.

The main distinguishing feature is the thermal sensor with a resolution of 1280×1024 pixels , significantly superior to traditional 384×288 or 640×512 pixel sensors. The greater amount of information allows for sharper edges, better reading of the environment, and more usable images even when increasing the digital zoom.

Thermal sensitivity reaches particularly low NETD values, while the PIPS processing system intervenes on noise reduction, image stability and the enhancement of the finest details.

The display is via a large, high-resolution OLED display (1920 x 1080), designed to improve comfort during prolonged observations and effectively exploit the sensor's potential.

The detection range extends up to 3600 meters and offers users an unmatched experience in terms of versatility and precision.

The series includes fixed-lens configurations and versions equipped with a Dual FOV system . The dual focal length from 35 mm to 70 mm allows you to switch from a relatively wide field of view, useful for research, to a configuration oriented towards long-distance observation.

The Sirius HD is therefore primarily intended for professional observation, wildlife management, monitoring of large areas and for users who wish to maintain high image quality even when using digital enlargements.

PIXFRA Sirius: High sensitivity and Dual FOV configurations

The family PIXFRA Sirius It offers a balance between image quality, battery life, ergonomics, and optical versatility. The range includes configurations with 384x288 and 640x512 pixel sensors, typically featuring a 12 μm pixel pitch.

High thermal sensitivity allows you to distinguish very small temperature differences. This feature is especially useful during mild nights, in humid forests, or in situations where the ground, vegetation, and wildlife are similar in temperature.

Depending on the version, the Sirius uses lenses with different focal lengths. Configurations with longer focal lengths are designed for open spaces and longer distances, while those with shorter focal lengths offer a wider field of view and facilitate searching in woods and vegetated areas.

Of particular interest are the versions with the Dual FOV system , which combine two different focal lengths (from 25 mm to 50 mm) in the same device. Switching between the two configurations allows you to quickly locate the subject with the wider field and then observe it at a higher magnification.

The range also includes configurations with an integrated laser rangefinder in its LRF version , which offers precise measurement up to 1000 meters with an accuracy of +/- 1 meter, through which it is possible to directly measure the distance to the subject without resorting to an external device.

PIXFRA Arc: Magnesium alloy body and replaceable batteries

The range includes configurations with 256×192, 384×288, and 640×512 pixel sensors. The most advanced versions achieve particularly low NETD values, improving the thermal separation of the subject from the environment.

Lenses with different focal lengths cover different needs, from observation with a relatively wide field of view to detection at greater distances.

The main configurations use a high-resolution OLED display. The PIPS 3.0 system was developed to maintain good clarity even at higher magnifications and offer high precision in aiming point adjustment.

Control is via a multifunction wheel and a limited number of buttons. This setup minimizes the clutter of the control panel and allows for quick access to the main settings.

The reset system allows you to create, rename, and manage multiple profiles, associating them with different distances or configurations. The procedure can also be performed via the app. PIXFRA Outdoor, by adjusting the parameters directly from your smartphone.

The RAR function automatically memorizes the sequence before and after recoil. The magnesium alloy body offers strength and low weight, while the power supply uses a replaceable battery accessible through a quick-release cover.

PIXFRA Draco: Multispectral Thermal and Digital Binoculars

Il PIXFRA Draco It's a device dedicated to multispectral observation. Unlike standard thermal binoculars, it integrates multiple technologies within the same body.

The platform combines:

  • thermal imaging;
  • high-resolution digital vision;
  • laser rangefinder;
  • infrared illuminator.

The ability to switch between thermal vision and digital imaging allows you to leverage the advantages of both technologies. The thermal channel is particularly effective for quickly identifying a presence through its heat signature, while the digital channel allows you to observe shapes, colors, and visual details useful for better identification.

Draco configurations include thermal sensors with different resolutions, from 256×192 up to 640×512 pixels in the D635-4K model, combined with a 4K digital channel. The high thermal sensitivity facilitates observation when the contrast between the subject and the environment is low.

The Full HD OLED display and high-magnification eyepiece offer a wide, immersive view. The curved interface makes the most of the available space and makes key information instantly readable.

The PIPS 3.0 system processes the thermal channel, while electronic image stabilization helps reduce shake during handheld observations. The Defog function improves readability in haze and adverse weather conditions.

The multifunction wheel resembles the controls found on traditional optical binoculars. The buttons are tactile and allow you to operate the device without taking your eyes off the scene.

The Draco multispectral binoculars also offer 6 palettes for thermal imaging and 4 color modes for day/night viewing.

Despite its technological complexity, the body maintains dimensions and weight designed for field use. Extended battery life and the ability to operate with a single battery increase operational convenience.

Dual-band Wi-Fi improves video streaming stability to the app. The built-in laser rangefinder completes a device suitable for wildlife research, land surveillance, and extended observations.

PIXFRA Volans: Digital Day & Night Vision Riflescopes

The family PIXFRA Volans It belongs to the category of Day & Night digital spotting scopes. It does not use a thermal sensor, but a highly sensitive digital sensor capable of providing color images during the day and night images with the support of infrared illumination.

At the heart of the system is a high-resolution Starlight CMOS sensor. The increased detail facilitates the identification of visual features, a useful feature when it's necessary to distinguish shapes, colors, and features that a thermal image cannot reproduce.

The lens features an adjustable aperture, allowing you to adjust the amount of light to suit your surroundings. The aperture can be narrowed during the day and widened at dusk or night.

The basic optical magnification allows Volans to be used as a true digital telescope, while the circular display recalls the view offered by a traditional optic and helps make reading the scene natural.

The family includes standard configurations and Volans LRF versions . The latter integrate a laser rangefinder capable of measuring the distance to the subject.

In the LRF configuration, the rangefinder can communicate with the ballistic calculator. By entering the ammunition data and the required parameters, the system determines the necessary correction in relation to the detected distance.

Resetting can also be managed via the app PIXFRA Outdoor, creating different groups and precisely modifying the grid coordinates.

The metal body is designed to withstand the stresses of recoil. The eye relief maintains adequate distance between the eyepiece and the eyepiece, while the quick-release battery compartment makes battery replacement easy.

The internal gallery finally allows you to view, select and delete photos and videos directly from the device.
